Monika Sosnowska was born in Ryki, Poland in 1972 and currently lives and works in Warsaw.

She studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan. Her site-specific architectural structures are created with manipulated construction materials such as steel beams, pipes and concrete and are informed by the conceptual thinking of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the modernist architecture of Eastern Europe.

In 2003, her work was exhibited in the Arsenale section of the 50^th Venice Biennale, and in 2007, she represented Poland at the 52nd International Venice Biennale. She was awarded the Bâloise Prize at Art Basel, and the Polityka’s Passport award. She has also received the Ernst Schering Foundation academic scholarship and was nominated for the Hugo Boss Prize in 2012. Major solo exhibitions for Sosnowska have been presented at the Perez Art Museum, Miami; the Aspen Art Museum, Aspen; the Australian Center for Contemporary Art, Melbourne; Modern Institute, Glasgow; K21 Standehaus, Dusseldorf, (where she was the first artist invited by the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen to fill the courtyard for a 2-year exhibition); the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Herzliya, Israel; the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz; the Tamayo Museum in Mexico City; the Museum of Modern Art, New York and at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow, among others worldwide.
