Christian Zervos & Cahiers d’Art: The Archaic Turn

12/12/2019 – 01/03/2020

This is the first exhibition dedicated to Christian Zervos in Greece. Publisher, art critic of Greek origin and founder of the magazine Cahiers d’Art, Christian Zervos is considered one of the great “unknown” figures in the history of art. This exhibition aims to reveal to the general public a portrait of this critic and his influence on 20th century art. The exhibition brings together some sixty works from Zervos’ personal collection, works by the artists Matisse, Miró, Picasso, Laurens, Calder, Lam, Kandinsky, Ghika, Sklavou, Giacometti and Brancusi. This is the first time they are shown outside the Zervos Museum in Vézelay. The exhibition also shows the archives of the Zervos Museum, which show the importance of the publications of the Cahiers d’Art in the development of modern art in Paris.
