This book presents a collection of 104 photographs, portraits, and rayographs. It includes portraits by Man Ray of Salvador Dalí, Tristan Tzara, James Joyce, André Derain, Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Constantin Brâncuși, Sergei Eisentein, Le Corbusier, Arnold Schönberg, and Gertrude Stein, among many others. It also includes a portrait by Picasso, texts by André Breton, Paul Éluard, Rrose Sélavy, and Tristan Tzara, and a foreword by Man Ray. It was published by James Thrall Soby, Hartford (U.S.A.), and Cahiers d’Art, Paris. Original plastic spiral binding by Draeger. The cover image is a colour photograph by Man Ray.
It is actually a first edition, despite the indication “second edition”. The publisher had indeed added the fictitious mention to make buyers believe that the first edition was already sold out.
