William Kentridge

William Kentridge is a South African artist, performer and director.

Best known for his drawings and prints, the central element of Kentridge’s work is an examination of history and life in the years before and after apartheid. To tell his stories, the artist confuses infuses his autobiography with that of fictional characters, giving his ink and charcoal drawings an expressive character. In 2015, Kentridge created Unremember Me for Cahiers d’Art, a monotone etching which can also be seen in the 2015 Revue 2015, titled Picasso Dans l’atelier.

Unremember Me, 2015. Lithograph on Japanese paper. Signed and numbered, edition of 36 plus 7 artist’s proofs.  18 7/8 x 15 in (48 x 38 cm)

“I am interested in politics, that is to say, in an art of ambiguity, contradiction, simple gestures and uncertain ends.”
