The editorial team at Cahiers d’Art consists of Staffan Ahrenberg, publisher, Samuel Keller, director of the Fondation Beyeler in Switzerland; curator and art critic Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Isabela Mora



Staffan Ahrenberg

Born in 1957 in Stockholm, Staffan Ahrenberg acquires Cahiers d’Art in 2011. He relaunches the legendary publishing house in October, 2012, with its eponymous art journal (La Revue). Edited by Ahrenberg, Sam Keller and Hans Ulrich Obrist, the first new issue in 52 years is dedicated to Ellsworth Kelly. Since 2013, Staffan Ahrenberg has published La Revue with artists such as Rosemarie Trockel, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Gabriel Orozco, Calder, Picasso, Orozco, Miro, Ai Weiwei, Christo, and Arthur Jafa.

Ahrenberg organizes “Le Corbusier. The Secrets of Creativity: Between Painting and Architecture,” an exhibition curated by Jean-Louis Cohen, at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow in 2012, and at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm in 2013.

In 2015, in collaboration with Fondation Beyeler, and with the support of AVC Charity Foundation, Moscow, Ahrenberg co-organizes the production of the futuristic opera “Victory Over the Sun,” with costumes and set designs by Kazimir Malevich, at Theater Basel. The production is subsequently staged at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris.

In April 2017, Staffan Ahrenberg opens the Cahiers d’Art-König bookstore at the contemporary art museum Palais de Tokyo, together with Walther König. It is the largest art bookstore in Paris.

In May 2018, Ahrenberg is honored as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in France and in 2020, Ahrenberg establishes the Cahiers d’Art Institute, a US nonprofit.

Sam Keller  

Born 1966 in Basel, Sam Keller studied Art History, Philosophy and History at University of Basel. He was Director of Art Basel from 2000 – 2007 and consequently Chairman of the Art Basel Advisory Board until 2020. Sam Keller has been the Director of Fondation Beyeler, Switzerland’s most visited art museum, since 2008. In addition, he serves on various boards and committees of museums, cultural foundations and corporations including the Musee d’Orsay in Paris, the Berggruen Museum in Berlin, the Swiss Institute in New York, Kandinsky Prize, Moscow, Novartis and UBS. Sam Keller has been honored with awards including Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French Ministery of Culture, UNESCO Patron, Premio Madrid Creatividad, and an honorary doctorate by the University of Basel.

Hans Ulrich Obrist

Hans Ulrich Obrist (b. 1968, Zürich, Switzerland) is Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries in London. Prior to this, he was Curator of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Since his first show World Soup (The Kitchen Show) in 1991 he has curated more than 300 exhibitions. Most notable amongst these are the Do It series (1993–), Take Me (I’m Yours) in London (1995), Paris (2015) New York (2016), and Milan (2017); and the Swiss Pavilion at the 14th International Architecture Biennale in Venice (2014). Obrist has also co-curated the Cities on The Move series (1996–2000), Laboratorium (1999); the operatic group exhibition Il Tempo del Postino in Manchester (2007) and Basel (2009), and The 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 Rooms series (2011–2015). Obrist’s The Handwriting Project, which protests the disappearance of handwriting in the digital age, has been taking place on Instagram since 2013 (@hansulrichobrist).

Isabela Mora

Born in 1968 in San Sebastián, Spain, and based in Madrid, Isabela Mora, has developed her career worldwide. She is responsible for International Projects at the Fondation Beyeler in Basel, and, together with its Director, Sam Keller, has developed and overseen countless projects over the past 20 years. She and Keller are currently preparing a major exhibition on Francisco de Goya at the Fondation Beyeler, scheduled for October, 2021, in collaboration with the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid.

As a close collaborator of Hans Ulrich Obrist, Mora has produced a series of exhibitions curated by him, at House-Museums such as “El aire es azul” at Casa Barragán, Mexico City, “Everstill,” at the Federico García Lorca Huerta de San Vicente’s home in Granada, and “The Insides are on the Outside,” at Casa de Vidro by Lina Bo Bardi in São Paulo. Obrist and Mora are currently preparing the next House-Museum exhibition project at the studio and house of Alexander Calder in Roxbury, CT in the US. 

Together with Philippe Parreno, Douglas Gordon and Anna Lena Vaney, Mora participated as an advisor to the project on the development of the film “Zidane a portrait of the XXI Century,” directed by Gordon and Parreno. She is also a member of the Board of the Fundación Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Madrid
